Thomas W. Chalberg, PhD.
Dr. Chalberg is the Founding CEO of Avalanche Biotechnologies, an early-stage drug delivery company focused on sustained delivery of protein therapeutics. Dr. Chalberg co-invented the Avalanche Method, a patented platform technology for genetic modification. Dr. Chalberg founded Avalanche while a Senior Manager in Market Development at Genentech, where he focused on Analytical Marketing. Dr. Chalberg has also consulted to the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry with ZS Associates, a leading sales and marketing consulting firm. He holds a PhD in Genetics from Stanford Medical School, where he was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Pre-Doctoral Fellow. Dr. Chalberg graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Harvard College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Michael Crockett
Mr. Crockett has over 22 years of experience working in the Biotechnology industry. For 10 years, Mr. Crockett worked at Scios Inc. were he was a senior member of the corporate management board, reporting directly to the CEO. As an experienced and respected leader at Scios, Mr. Crockett played an important role in managing and directing the Scios drug development program. Mr. Crockett served as the project team leader for the company's lead project, Natrecor® (nesiritide), which was developed to treat patients with acute heart failure. Simultaneously, Mr Crockett was also leading the Scios Regulatory Affairs department. Natrecor® (nesiritide) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001. Scios Inc., in early 2003, was acquired bu Johnson and Johnson for $2.4 billion.
Prior to joining Scios in 1997, Mr. Crockett worked at Genentech for over 12 years. During that time, he served in a variety of managerial positions in regulatory and manufacturing operations supporting the clinical development and commercialization of its leading products: Protropin® (somatrem for injection) and Nutropin® (somatropin for injection) human growth hormone; Activase® (alteplase, recombinant); Pulmozyme® (dornase alfa); and Actimmune® (Interferon gamma-1b). Mr. Crockett received his B.S. degree in biochemistry and his B.A. degree in philosophy from St. Mary's College of California.
